McDermott settles for point

4 November 2012 19:34

Reading manager Brian McDermott was pleased to share the spoils of a 1-1 draw against QPR on Sunday.

Kaspars Gorkss delivered the opener for Reading after 16 minutes but Djibril Cisse equalised in the 66th minute as both sides remained winless in the Premier League this term.

McDermott said a draw at Loftus Road, where QPR have also split points with Chelsea and Everton, was a good result given the swaying momentum of the match.

"It is a good point, we were one-up and maybe could have gone two-up, and then when they got back to 1-1, Alex McCarthy has made a great save from Taarabt," McDermott told Sky Sports.

"But the performance today was a really good away from home performance."

QPR manager Mark Hughes praised his side for their come-from behind effort.

"Second-half we made a much better game of it, in terms of being brave in possession, getting on the ball and really driving the game to Reading," Hughes told Sky Sports.

"We just had to up the tempo, be a bit braver and force the issue a little bit more than we did in the first half and I thought we did that."

Hughes was also defiant when quizzed on his side's lacklustre start to the campaign, vowing to turn their fortunes around.

"I have said time and time again, we are in a situation that nobody anticipated and we are working exceptionally hard," he said.

"It is a difficult period - difficult games - that will change."
