Leigertwood calls for Reading focus

1 November 2012 16:22

Reading midfielder Mikele Leigertwood has insisted his struggling side cannot dwell on their 7-5 Capital One Cup defeat to Arsenal.

The 29-year-old scored for the second game in succession as Reading raced into a 4-0 lead at the Madejski Stadium on Wednesday, only to lose out in an extraordinary second half.

However, the 29-year-old is focusing on the positives from the game, and has urged his team-mates to put the result behind them by securing their first victory of the Premier League season when they visit Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.

"Arsenal are a good side and if we don't do the stuff that we're good at, then we'll get punished - unfortunately that was the case in the second half," he told the club's official website.

"We approached it in a positive way and that was evident from the start but we were probably too naive towards the end.

"We'll be back into training after we've had a couple of days off and we have to make sure we put it right on Sunday."

Leigertwood enjoyed a four-year spell at QPR before joining Reading, but is determined to get one over on his former club in order to boost his side's survival chances.

"It's going to be a test and we've shown time and time again that we can bounce back," he said.

"There's no reason why we can't go and get a positive result on Sunday.

"It's totally different to when I was there. They've spent a lot of money over the summer but things aren't clicking for them. But we're not worried about them - we focus on ourselves.

"Every game is a big game so we'll approach it in a positive manner as we always do and I'm sure we can get a result."
