Deschamps expects Marseille stay

21 May 2012 20:14

Didier Deschamps has dismissed speculation linking him with the Liverpool job, revealing he expects to continue as manager of Marseille.

Liverpool are on the lookout for a new boss following the sacking of Kenny Dalglish, with speculation suggesting Deschamps was on the shortlist.

The 43-year-old former France captain has come under pressure at the Stade Velodrome this season as his Marseille side finished in a disappointing 10th in Ligue 1.

But, when asked about his future, Deschamps told reporters he expected to remain at Marseille next season.

"It is expected that I will be there (Marseille) next season," Deschamps said.

"When it goes badly, there is need to recharge, I will leave on vacation but it is expected that I be there for July 2."

Despite disappointment domestically, Deschamps did manage to lead his side to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they were eliminated by eventual runners-up Bayern Munich.
