Suarez reveals Spanish dream

18 May 2012 00:40

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez admits that he dreams of one day playing in Spain, though remains happy on Merseyside for the time being.

The 25-year-old has endured a tough first full season at the club, being caught up in a number of controversial incidents while Liverpool finished a disappointing eighth in the Premier League - their worst finish since 1954.

Suarez has impressed on the field though, and has been linked with a number of Europe's top clubs, and he said that one day he would like to move to La Liga.

"I hope to do so in future because I believe that alongside the English and Italian leagues it is the best in the world. Any player would dream of playing in them," Suarez told Marca.

"If you take notice of all the rumours you read in the papers, you go crazy. My head is very relaxed, I have a contract with Liverpool and I am very happy."

Liverpool will be in the Europa League next season and although Suarez wants to win that competition he is already looking forward to bigger successes with the club.

"Obviously playing the Champions League the year after next and next season, there is a good opportunity to win the Europa League," he said.

"It would be a dream at a club like Liverpool, who haven't achieved that for some time. To fight for the Premier League again would be something very special.

"The stadium and the fans are what have impressed me most because of the euphoria there is, however the team is doing. The fans have backed us all the way and with all the affection they give you, it makes you feel really good on the pitch."

The former Ajax striker, who will be a spectator for this year's European Championships, continued in his praise for Spain when he was asked for his opinion on who will lift the trophy in Ukraine and Poland.

"I believe Spain (will win) because they are the last European champion and won the World Cup, but I think Germany are a strong candidate as well," he said.
