DC United climbed to second place in the MLS Eastern Conference on Wednesday with a 2-0 home win over the Colorado Rapids.
The Rapids, who are in fifth place on the Western Conference table, were undone by a goal in each half from Ben Olsen's side, who moved within one point of the table-topping New York Red Bulls in the East.
Dwayne De Rosario opened the scoring for United in the 25th minute when he latched on to a great ball from Lewis Neal before slotting past Matt Pickens in the Colorado goal, much to the delight of the Robert F Kennedy Memorial Stadium crowd.
Hamdi Salihi made it 2-0 on the hour mark when he was on hand to turn in a rebound from a Branko Boskovic header that Pickens had done very well to stop.
It was a disappointing night for Colorado, who failed to create much in midfield and could not muster a single shot on target.
DC United host Toronto on Saturday, while Colorado welcome Sporting Kansas City to Dick's Sporting Goods Park the same day.
