Rummenigge: Chelsea will struggle under new laws

8 May 2012 14:48

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge feels Chelsea could struggle to meet UEFA's Financial Fair Play criteria.

The Bayern Munich CEO believes the Premier League side will not be able to break even, unlike Spanish powerhouses Barcelona and Real Madrid, despite club owner Roman Abramovich's more cautious approach in recent years.

"It is no secret that 60 percent of professional European football clubs are in the red. What I do know is that Chelsea would not meet the criteria of Financial Fair Play today," Rummenigge told Abendzeitung.

"He (Abramovich) is completely likeable - and not the kind to appear cocky or arrogant. He is more cautious (than other comparable owners).

"Real Madrid (will) break even, Barcelona (will) break even."

Rummenigge discussed the upcoming Champions League final against Chelsea, and feels Bayern have been enjoying a Hollywood scenario so far.

"When we three - Uli Hoeness, Karl Hopfner and I - drove to the hotel in Madrid (for the semi-final), I said to them, 'If you were to make a film, then this would be the perfect script. This is ripe for Hollywood'," he said.

"No director could have come up with a better one: you play a perfect international campaign, you have the final in your own stadium - and now I hope that there will be a happy ending."

Bayern will meet Chelsea at the Allianz Arena on May 19.
