Lee hoping to avoid Middle East trip

8 May 2012 07:01

Singapore's Home United are determined to beat Chonburi in the AFC Cup on Tuesday and ensure a home round of 16 game.

Coach Lee Lim-Saeng remained optimistic his squad will grab the points in order to finish top of Group G and avoid having to travel to the Middle East for a one-off knockout match in the round of 16.

"Tomorrow’s game is crucial as we want to play at home in Singapore in the Round of 16 and not have to travel to the Middle East to play, that is why it is so important for us to get a win," Lee said.

"When we played away at Chonburi, our players seemed nervous especially playing in front of their fans. But I think that they will play with more confidence."

"It is an important game and we cannot give up."

Meanwhile Chonburi coach Withaya Laohakul hopes several players who have Singaporean football experience can lead the team with their knowledge.

"We have a couple of players, Therdsak Chaiman and Kengne Ludovick who have played in Singapore before and can provide us with the benefit of their experience," Laohakul said.

"Therdsak is very experienced and I believe he can control tomorrow’s game. We will try our best because we have set a high target for our club. We beat the eventual champions (Nasaf) last year but this year, we aim to reach the final."

Previously, Home United grabbed a 2-1 away victory in their Hong Kong trip against Citizen, while Chonburi secured three points after a 1-0 win over Myanmar side Yangon United.
