Dede has been ruled out of Vasco da Gama's Copa Libertadores clash against Lanus on Wednesday with a leg injury.

The centre-back was expected to take part in the second leg but a member of the club's medical staff insisted it would be unwise for him to return to action.

"He still complained of some minor pain in the area," Alexandre Campello told Globoesporte.

"It's a complicated case of stress, which requires extra care.

"As time is short we decided it would not be prudent to go back at the moment as it could result in an aggravation of the injury."

Vasco lead 2-1 from the first leg and will now be forced to face a difficult return fixture in Buenos Aires without their talismanic defender.
