Garde upset by Lyon lapse

Lyon coach Remi Garde was annoyed with his players after they could only manage a 1-1 home draw with strugglers Brest on Sunday.

Yoann Gourcuff put Lyon in front after 37 minutes but they missed a host of chances to double their lead and were made to pay as Gregory Lorenzi bagged a late leveller for the visitors.

Lyon are desperate to finish fourth – a position that would earn them entrance into the Europa League – and although they sit three points clear of Stade Rennes in fifth, their failure to beat Brest has put their hopes in jeopardy.

"It's disappointing," Garde said.

"Disappointing because we made each other a promise, a promise to win all the remaining games. I think today we failed, but we are the only ones responsible.

"We blew it and missed a victory, as simple as that. When we are 1-0 ahead we know we are not safe. Brest has shown a great team spirit, better than ours, especially in the second half.

"Now, we need to do everything to secure this fourth place."

Lyon go to Evian and Ajaccio before a home fixture against Nice wraps up their 2011/12 Ligue 1 campaign.
