Eredivisie wrap: Feyenoord earn CL spot, Ajax celebrate with win
Feyenoord qualified for next season's Champions League playoffs as Ajax ended their Eredivisie championship winning season with a win.
With third-placed PSV beating Excelsior 3-1, Feyenoord needed nothing less than a victory at Heerenveen on the final day to secure second place and a Champions League berth.
And the 14-time Eredivisie champions delivered.
The league's leading scorer Bas Dost pounced in the six yard box to put Heerenveen ahead but Feyenoord responded with three goals in eleven minutes.
First Otman Bakkal levelled on the hour mark, before Sekou Cisse and Elvis Manu hit the back of the net.
Heerenveen finished the season in fifth place, good enough to book a spot in the Europa League group stage.
Champions Ajax defeated seventh-placed Vitesse 3-1 to conclude their season on a winning note. Goals from Dmitri Bulyki, Andre Ooijer and captain Jan Vertonghen cancelled out Nick Hofs' 29th-minute opener.
Erik Falkenburg's 26th minute goal was enough for AZ Alkmaar to sign off as winners in front of 16,000 home fans. AZ will take part in next season's Europa League, while defeat for Groningen sees them finish six points above the relegation drop zone.
Despite a come from behind 4-2 win over Twente, VVV Venlo will playoff against an Eerste Divisie side to avoid relegation.
De Graafschap is the other club set to be involved in the relegation playoff. The 17th-placed club emerged victorious 5-3 at ADO Den Haag, who narrowly avoided a place in the relegation playoffs.
NEC beat Heracles 2-1 to earn a spot in the top-eight and a chance to playoff for a place in next season's Europa League.
Meanwhile, NAC Breda edged RKC Waalwijk 3-2 at the Rat Verlegh Stadion and Roda JC fell 3-1 to Utrecht.
