Belgian First Division wrap: Gent lose at home

Gent have blown the chance to move third on Belgian Championship play-off table after losing 3-2 at home to Kortrijk on Saturday.

Kortrijk had not won since early April but had shown some improved form in a midweek 4-3 loss to Belgian leaders Anderlecht.

That translated into Hein Vanhaezebrouck's side taking a 3-0 lead over Gent through goals from Steven Joseph-Monrose, Mustapha Oussalah and Peter Czvitkovics.

Gent produced a late revival as Zlatan Ljubijankic and Jesper Jorgensen scored in the last five minutes, but the result ultimately flattered Gent who remain fourth on the six-team play-off table, one point behind third-placed Genk and six ahead of sixth-placed Kortrijk.

Cercle Brugge KSV, meanwhile maintained top spot in Group A in the second play-offs, through a 3-1 win over Mechelen that saw Portuguese striker Rudy score a brace.

OH Leuven are on Cercle Brugge's tail in Group A, however, after coming from behind to secure a 2-1 win over third-placed Lierse in the four-team group.

Lierse opened the scoring through Jason Adesanya three minutes into the second half but Leuven hit back just after the hour through Jordan Remacle before Kevin Roelandts delivered the three points through an 85th-minute winner.

In Group B of the second play-off group, Mons maintained top spot with a 1-1 draw with third-placed Beerschot as Zulte-Waregem scored twice in the last 14 minutes, coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Lokeren.
