Dortmund break points record

5 May 2012 18:02

Borussia Dortmund have broken the Bundesliga record for most points in a single season after thumping Freiburg 4-0 at home on Saturday.

Dortmund have finished the campaign on 81 points, two ahead of the previous record held by Bayern Munich who recorded 78 during the 1998-99 season.

Polish duo Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Blaszczykowski both grabbed doubles in the convincing victory to round off Dortmund's second consecutive Bundesliga title in stunning fashion.

Their tally also beats Bayern's record from the 1971-72 campaign, who would have claimed 79 points if teams at the time received three for a win.

Dortmund will be looking to complete a domestic double when they face Jupp Heynckes' men in the DFB Pokal final next weekend.
