Kewell in talks with Victory

29 March 2012 06:55

Harry Kewell's future at Melbourne Victory will be up for discussion when representatives of the player and club meet in Sydney on Thursday.

The Australia international signed a three-year deal at Victory last August, but a release clause means both parties can opt out of the contract should they wish.

Victory and Kewell appear keen to continue their relationship, though the Herald Sun newspaper claims the 33-year-old is seeking assurances the club is heading in the right direction after a season which saw coach Mehmet Durakovic sacked in January and Victory finish eighth in the 10-team A-League.

The former Leeds United, Liverpool and Galatasaray forward reportedly wants his future finalised before leaving for the United Kingdom, having overcome a slow start at Victory to score eight goals and provide four assists in his first campaign.

Andrew Neophitou, representative of Kewell's management company Sports and Entertainment Limited, told the Melbourne newspaper: "Harry would like to stay at Melbourne Victory provided we can come to a suitable arrangement."

Victory managing director Richard Wilson confirmed the feelings are mutual, saying the two parties were "on the same page".

"They told us that Harry wants to stay and we want him too, it's just a matter of sitting down and crunching through negotiations," he said.
