Moyes not looking past Sunderland

27 March 2012 15:34

Everton boss David Moyes said he is not looking ahead to a Wembley showdown with Liverpool as he prepares to do battle with Sunderland.

Everton journey to the Stadium of Light on Tuesday to meet Sunderland in a FA Cup quarter-final replay, after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Goodison on March 17.

The reward for the victor is a trip to London to play Liverpool, which would be the first time in 23 years the Merseyside giants have clashed at Wembley.

Moyes, however, is refusing to look ahead to that showdown, and is instead putting all his energies into the trip to Sunderland.

"The draw is an irrelevance until this game is over," Moyes said. "I've hardly thought beyond going up to Sunderland and making sure we try and get a good result.

"That job's big enough without thinking of anything else.

"I wouldn't dream of getting ahead of myself, not with playing such a good side in a replay, and I don't think the fans are thinking past it either."

When Everton take to the field at the Stadium of Light it will be their sixth game in 18 days, and they have won just two in that run so far.

Moyes will be without pacey midfielder Steven Pienaar, who is cup-tied having already appeared in the competition for Tottenham.

He could be be joined on the sidelines by Jack Rodwell and Seamus Coleman who are both injury doubts.

For Sunderland, Lee Cattermole is set to return to the side having missed the last four games through suspension.

However, Martin O'Neill is set to be without former Manchester United pair John O'Shea and Kieran Richardson.
