Birmingham City moved into the Championship play-off places after playing out a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City on Sunday.

Erik Huseklepp gave Chris Hughton's side a 68th-minute lead, only for Mark Hudson to level soon after at St Andrew's.

Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall also saved a Marlon King penalty early in the second half.

Birmingham moved into sixth - the final promotion play-off place - while Cardiff are also on 60 points in eighth.

Ben Turner went close to opening the scoring on 15 minutes for Cardiff when he curled a shot just wide of Boaz Myhill's post.

The hosts had struggled in the first half but had the best chance to go ahead after the break when Jordon Mutch was fouled by Don Cowie in the area.

King stepped up to take the 56th-minute spot-kick, but Marshall made a strong save down low.

Birmingham would, however, get the opener, when Chris Burke set up Norway attacker Huseklepp, who finished well from close range.

But Cardiff secured a point through Hudson on 78 minutes, with the defender volleying into the bottom corner after Peter Whittingham's cross fell for him in the area.
