Mosimane encouraged by Senegal draw

Pitso Mosimane feels his South Africa team acquitted themselves well during their 0-0 draw with Senegal on Wednesday.

South Africa endured their sixth match without a win in the international friendly, failing to break the deadlock against a Senegal side featuring nine changes from their Africa Cup of Nations failure earlier this year.

"The team did very well, the players gave their best, approached the game with a good attitude and they kept attacking," Mosimane said.

"We created a lot of chances. We didn't really change the way we played even though I tried a different formation, which was hard since some of the team only joined us on Tuesday afternoon."

May Mahlangu had a one-on-one opportunity in the fifth minute of the match in Durban, but struck his shot straight at the goalkeeper, while Teko Modise also hit a tame effort in injury time.

The South Africa coach said the failure to bury such chances is his team's biggest problem at the moment.

"We tried to get a goal by going with three attacking players up-front in (Katlego) Mphela, (Edward) Manqela and (Thulani) Serero," Mosimane said.

"May should have wrapped it up one-on-one with the goalkeeper, then at the end of the game Teko had poor technique in that shot and that's our problem, we don't take our chances."

"Senegal had a bunch of good boys with good heart. They were tactically organised and they have loads of depth - players playing all across Europe, even though they were missing some big guys."
