Navas happy to help Spain progress

19 June 2012 02:10

Jesus Navas reflected on a 'tough' game for Spain after scoring the winning goal against Croatia at Euro 2012 on Monday.

Vicente del Bosque's team faced a stubborn Croatian rearguard and were unable to find a breakthrough for long periods of the match.

But Navas found his range on 88 minutes to seal his side's place in the last eight of the tournament.

"It was a tough game," Navas told Telecinco. "Croatia had plenty to play for in this match and they played defensively."

There were claims before the clash that the two sides would play out a 2-2 draw, which would have sent both through to the next round and left Italy out of the tournament.

But Navas stated that the idea had never crossed the mind of any of the players due to their hunger for glory.

"We, the players, want to win everything, we always want the victory. We look for that because of what we've achieved, and what we want to win (in the future)," he said.
