Two-goal Andriy young at heart

12 June 2012 00:41

Andriy Shevchenko said he felt like a 20-year-old after netting a double in Ukraine's 2-1 victory over Sweden on Monday.

The Euro 2012 co-hosts found themselves on the back foot early in the second half following a Zlatan Ibrahimovic strike, but two goals from the Dinamo Kiev forward completed a dramatic turnaround.

Shevchenko was given a standing ovation when he was substituted shortly before time by coach Oleg Blokhin.

"I feel great, like I am 20 years old, so I feel fine," he told German TV channel ZDF.

"This was a historic game for us, a great victory.

"I feel less adrenaline in my body now, but more in my head. I tried to be at my best, and I succeeded.

"I would like to thank everyone who supported me to be fit for the Euros. I had some fitness problems before the tournament, but I am here now!"

By beating Sweden, Ukraine jumped to the top of the Group D standings after England and France played out a 1-1 draw earlier on Monday.

"I believe we can achieve a lot with this team," Shevchenko said.
