Arsenal are leading the chase to sign Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud, according to the French club's coach Rene Girard.
Following a hugely impressive 25-goal season capped by the Ligue 1 title, France international Giroud has been linked with a move to several other top clubs, including Bayern Munich, in recent weeks.
But Montpellier coach Girard has revealed the north London club are leading the chase and claims a deal could be close.
"Arsenal are very interested and Giroud wants to play in England, if Arsene (Wenger) agrees with the president (Louis Nicollin), he will sign for them," Girard said.
Giroud is on international duty with France at Euro 2012, and has said no decision on his future will be made until after the conclusion of the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
With Cologne striker Lukas Poldolski already signed by Arsenal, a move for an additional striker has led to further speculation linking Robin van Persie with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.
