Tyton, Lewandowski carry Polish hopes

9 June 2012 23:15

Fresh from their enthralling 1-1 draw against Greece in the opening match of Euro 2012, Poland were back training again on Saturday.

The team trained in front of thousands of fans who had hoped for more from their Group A opener after the hosts took a 1-0 lead against Greece on Friday.

Star striker Robert Lewandowski was again the main attraction, but goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton was also put through his paces.

He will now be deputising for the suspended Wojciech Szczesny, who was sent off against the Greeks.

Poland's next game on Tuesday will see them take on Russia, who impressed in a 4-1 demolition of Czech Republic to begin their challenge.

With a vocal home support cheering them on, the suspended Szczesny backed his team-mates to get a positive result against Russia

"It is the same as any other game, when you play in the European championships every single game is important," Szczesny said.

"You have to do your best to win it. Obivously we realise how good the fans are and they give us great support to go on and win some more games.

"Yes, I think we are (confident of qualifying from the group). We didn't lose the game which was most important thing and we have given ourselves a chance to go on and qualify."
