Szczesny optimistic despite red card

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny remains in good spirits despite his red card in Poland's opening Euro 2012 match against Greece.

The 22-year-old from Arsenal believes Poland can qualify for the quarter-finals of the continental championships despite drawing 1-1 with Greece.

"Yes, I think we are (confident of qualifying from the group)," Szczesny said after Poland's training session on Saturday.

"We didn't lose the game which was most important thing and we have given ourselves a chance to go on and qualify."

Szczesny was sent off for a trip on Dimitris Salpingidis in Friday's Euro 2012 opener, which also cost his side a penalty.

But his replacement in goal, Przemyslaw Tyton, saved the shot from the spot and the co-hosts of the European Championships held on for a draw.

Poland next face Russia, who smashed Czech Republic 4-1 in the other Group A game on Friday.

"It is the same as any other game," Sczesny said.

"When you play in the European championships every single game is important.

"You have to do your best to win it.

"Obviously we realise how good the fans are and they give us great support to go on and win some more games."
