MLS wrap: Magee keeps Galaxy on track

A goal in the 62nd minute by Mike Magee earned Los Angeles Galaxy the points in a 1-0 away win over Dallas.

Magee, playing his first match since July 4, grabbed his fifth goal of the season, and his third in his past five matches.

Galaxy produced a fine defensive display on Saturday to maintain their push for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The only goal came from a fine through ball by Robbie Keane.

Keane controlled a bouncing ball at the top of the box and flicked it over a defender to Magee, who curled a shot round a defender and into the corner of the net.

San Jose Earthquakes moved two points clear at the top of the Western Conference despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Chicago Fire.

Chicago midfielder Chris Rolfe gave his team the lead in the 37th minute after a clever pass by Patrick Nyarko.

Earthquakes fans had to wait until the eighth minute of stoppage time before Steven Lenhart netted the equaliser from a Chris Wondolowski assist.

Marco Di Vaio scored his first goal for Montreal Impact in their 3-1 win over the New York Red Bulls. Thierry Henry was on target for the visitors, scoring his 11th goal of the season.

In other results, Kansas defeated Columbus Crew 2-1, with Jairo Arrieta netting a brace, Seattle Sounders defeated Colorado Rapids 2-1 and Danny Califf celebrated his first goal of the season as Chivas USA sent Portland Timbers to their fifth straight loss.

Calen Carr and Brian Ching were on target for Houston Dynamo in their 2-0 away win over Toronto.
