Gomes seeks return to Brazil

27 July 2012 12:17

Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has admitted he wants to return to Brazil when his contract at the club expires.

The former PSV Eindhoven man was deposed as the club's first-choice last season, with former boss Harry Redknapp choosing to place his faith in the experienced Brad Friedel instead.

"I have two more years under contract at Spurs and I intend to fulfil them. But I'm tired of Europe, I have reached my limit here," Gomes told reporters.

"I'm 31 years old and I'm thinking about moving back to Brazil. Atletico Mineiro wanted me, but Tottenham asked them to pay a fortune of eight million pounds for me and the negotiation finished."

However, with the club under new management, the goalkeeper has refused to throw in the towel just yet, having seen some welcoming signs that he may have a brighter future at White Hart Lane under Andre Villas-Boas.

"I'm sure that Villas-Boas' arrival is going to help me," Gomes said.

"He is great and he wants to do the best for Tottenham.

"I'm sure he will achieve many things here. I hope I could play in his team until 2014."
