Giggs slams tough-tackling Senegal

27 July 2012 14:16

Great Britain captain Ryan Giggs has condemned the physical approach of Senegal after the two sides drew their opening Olympic Games match.

The Africans' robust tactics on Thursday left Stuart Pearce's side with injury concerns ahead of their next game on Sunday against the United Arab Emirates, with both Joe Allen and Craig Bellamy doubtful.

Giggs was left fuming by the questionable tackling and criticised the match officials for failing to punish it.

"There were a few naughty challenges in there and a few of our lads are probably struggling for Sunday now," Giggs told reporters.

"There was no consistency. Craig Bellamy got booked going in for a header and then there were some ridiculous challenges but you don't even see a yellow card.

"I don't know how many fouls the number 10 had, but in a Premier League game he'd probably have been sent off three times."

Moussa Konate notched a late equaliser after Bellamy had earlier put his side ahead.
