Donovan wants more from Galaxy

23 July 2012 10:11

Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan believes his side have room for improvement, despite six wins in their last nine MLS games.

The Galaxy have started to pick up form as they try to defend their title but Donovan wants his team to concede less goals.

Los Angeles have conceded eight goals in their five games in July so far.

"We are playing well," Donovan said.

"We've got our guys who we depend on to make plays are making plays.

"Candidly we are probably leaving a few goals on the table each game, so as good as we feel about this we know we can still be better and I think little by little we are getting better defensively."

Galaxy's improved form has seen them move up to fifth in the MLS' Western Conference with 30 points, just four points behind third-placed Vancouver.

LA have been dominant in attack as they have moved up the standings, with Donovan and his strike-partner Robbie Keane each having scored four goals in July.

Keane has really impressed his 30-year-old American team-mate.

"He's been fantastic," Donovan said.

"He's creating chances for himself; he's creating chances for others.

"His passing is good, his movement and also probably underrated - he's also working hard defensively and helping us that way."

Keane, who spent part of the MLS season playing for Ireland at Euro 2012, believes it was only a matter of time before the Galaxy started to find form.

The 32-year-old forward reckons LA's poor form earlier in the season cannot be blamed on any one player.

"We weren't good enough before the European Championships," Keane said.

"So collectively as a group we weren't good enough.

"It was always going to come round that we would start picking up results and playing well and that's been the case."
