Kluivert named Van Gaal´s assistant

21 July 2012 14:51

Patrick Kluivert has been confirmed as the Netherlands' new assistant coach.

Louis van Gaal replaced Bert van Marwijk as Oranje boss after a disastrous Euro 2012 campaign in Poland and Ukraine last month, and the veteran coach has opted to select one of his former players as part of his staff.

Ex-AC Milan and Barcelona forward Kluivert is currently part of the coaching team at Eredivisie side Twente and will handle club and country coaching commitments simultaneously.

"His work with the Oranje will be combined with his position at Twente," Twente chairman Joop Munsterman told De Telegraaf.

"We think this will be a great experience for him and offers him a great opportunity."

Van Gaal brought Kluivert through the ranks at Ajax while in charge of the Dutch giants, before signing him for Barcelona and selecting him for Netherlands in his first stint as national coach.
