Europa League wrap: Twente, Vitesse held

20 July 2012 21:11

Eredivisie sides Twente and Vitesse both played out draws in their first legs of second round Europa League qualifying on Thursday.

Steve McClaren's Twente side could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Finnish outfit Inter Turku.

Pim Bouwman gave the Veikkausliiga runners-up a 38th-minute lead before Dusan Tadic equalised in the second half for the hosts at De Grolsch Veste.

It leaves Twente with a bigger task than they would have hoped for heading into the return leg in Finland on July 26.

In Bulgaria, Vitesse became the first team to lead on four different occasions but fail to win a European match after drawing 4-4 at Lokomotiv Plovdiv.

Jonathan Reis opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Yordan Todorov levelled a minute later.

Marco van Ginkel restored Vitesse's lead on the half-hour, but Lokomotiv again responded as Zdravko Lazarov equalised after half-time.

Lazarov cancelled out Wilfried Bony's goal before van Ginkel completed his brace, only for Youness Bengelloun to draw level with a stoppage-time equaliser.

Belgian First Division side Gent were 1-0 winners at Luxembourg's Differdange 03 thanks to Cesar Arzo's 27th-minute goal.

Cypriot league runners-up APOEL Nicosia, who reached the last eight of the Champions League last season, recorded a 2-0 win over Slovakia's Senica as Ailton and Nektarios Alexandrou scored.

St Johnstone suffered a 2-0 loss at Turkish side Eskisehirspor, leaving the Scottish Premier League side a big task ahead of the second leg.

Big-spending Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala recorded a 1-0 win at home to Budapest Honved, while Norway's Rosenborg were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw at home to Ordabasy.

Pole outfit Lech Poznan drew 1-1 at Azerbaijan's Khazar Lankaran, while Serbian side Crvena Zvezda were 4-3 victors in Belarus against Naftan.

A Tamas Gruborovics hat-trick saw Finn side JJK to a 3-2 win over Montenegro's Zeta, Viktoria Plzen will take a 3-1 lead into their second leg against Metalurgi Rustavi, while Shakhtyor and Ried drew 1-1.

Anorthosis Famagusta struck three times early in the second half in their 3-1 win at Levadia, Inter Baki drew 1-1 against Asteras Tripoli and Slovenia's Olimpija played out a scoreless draw at home to Norway's Tromso.

Gheorghe Boghiu's double led Moldova's Milsami-Ursidos to a 4-2 win over Kazakh side Aktobe, Latvia's Liepajas Metalurgs drew 2-2 at home to Legia Warszawa and Belarusian team Gomel beat Renova 2-0 in Macedonia.

Gevorg Ghazaryan netted a hat-trick as Metalurh Donetsk hammered Celik 7-0, while Nikola Rak's treble guided Slaven Koprivnica to a 6-0 belting of Portadown.

Tirana and AIK played out 1-1 draws against Aalesund and FH respectively, Rapid Bucharest overcame MYPA 3-1 and Zalgiris held Admira to a 1-1 draw.

CSKA Sofia drew 0-0 at Mura 05, Videoton held Slovan Bratislava to a 1-1 draw, while the Suduva-Vojvodina and St Patrick's-Siroki Brijeg matches finished with the same scoreline.
