Sigurdsson targets success with Spurs

Iceland's Gylfi Sigurdsson says he wants to play for 'silverware in every competition' after joining Tottenham Hotspur from Hoffenheim.

The 22-year-old turned down an opportunity to reunite with his former Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool to join Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane.

The former Reading player spoke of his joy at joining north London club Spurs and outlined his targets for the season ahead.

Sigurdsson told SpursTV: "I'm very happy to be here. It's a massive club with fantastic players. We're a big club and we want to be aiming to win league titles and silverware.

"The most important thing is to get off to a good start in the league and then get a good momentum that we can take into the Europa League and obviously there's the FA Cup so we want to be playing for silverware in every competition we're in."

Sigurdsson was Villas-Boas' first signing at White Hart Lane and the midfielder has enjoyed his first few days with the Portuguese manager.

Villas-Boas was sacked from Spurs' London rivals Chelsea in March last season, but Sigurdsson has been impressed with the new manager so far.

"He's great," Sigurdsson said.

"He's very positive about coming here and he feels privileged to be coaching the players here.

"I think you can see the first couple of days, we've done a couple of sessions and everyone's enjoying it. It looks good with him in charge and everyone can't wait for the season to start."

Sigurdsson also outlined his own personal targets after joining Spurs and spoke highly of the new training complex the team are set to move into after their pre-season tour of America.

"I'd like to play as much as I can and I want to win trophies because the squad is more than good enough," he said.

"(The training ground) is unbelievable. It's one of the best in Europe, if not the world. When we get back from America and start training there it's going to be fantastic."
