Friedel prepares for Modric exit

11 July 2012 14:09

Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel does not think playmaker Luka Modric will be allowed to leave without a replacement.

Spurs finished fourth in last season’s Premier League but narrowly missed out on Champions League football due to Chelsea winning the competition after beating Bayern Munich on penalties.

And Friedel has dismissed the notion that Modric's possible departure will result in Tottenham becoming a selling club and is sure chairman Daniel Levy will dive straight back into the transfer market for a suitable replacement.

"Knowing the way the chairman works, if someone like Luka Modric left the club, then they would have a ready-made replacement." Friedel told talkSPORT.

"I can't see with the ambition that the club has that they can let players leave without having a replacement. We're not a selling club - that's for sure."

Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho has been linked as the man to fill the void left by Modric, with new Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas having managed the player during his time in Portugal.

A fee of about 30 million pounds has been mooted, with the Croatian expected to demand the same figure.
