Betis sign Paulao

Real Betis have announced the signing of Saint-Etienne defender Paulao on a free transfer.

The Brazilian centre-back had only joined the Ligue 1 outfit last off-season, but spent the second half of 2011-12 on loan at the La Liga side, who stayed up in their first season back in the top flight by finishing 13th.

He has signed on until 2015 with the Seville-based side, having reached an agreement with Saint-Etienne over the termination of his contract.

The 30-year-old shot to prominence last year at Liga Sagres club Sporting Braga, as the side reached the Europa League final before losing to eventual champions Porto.

Paulao becomes Betis' fourth signing this off-season, following in the footsteps of Juan Carlos Perez, Ruben Perez and Salvador Agra.
