Equatorial Guinea coach Gilson Paulo has been given contract extension after guiding his team to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

Equatorial Guinea coach Gilson Paulo has been given contract extension after guiding his team to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

The Brazilian was hired only a few weeks ago when former trainer Henri Michel resigned after being unhappy with the way in which things were run within the football association.

The 62-year-old was originally only given a two-month contract, but impressive performances at the Cup of Nations have yielded wins over Senegal and Libya, prompting the authorities to reward him with a one-year contract extension.

The Equatorial Guinea government's official website confirmed the contract extension, while revealing that his salary is US$15,000 a month.

After losing their final Group A match 1-0 to Zambia, co-hosts Equatorial Guinea will face the winner of Group B, most likely powerhouse Ivory Coast, in the quarter-finals.
