Attacking midfielder Remy Cabella scored the only goal as Montpellier progressed in the Coupe de France on Monday.

Cabella, 21, struck in the 53rd minute at Tours to guide Ligue 1 title hopefuls Montpellier to victory over their Ligue 2 rivals.

An away win was always a distinct possibility for Rene Girard's men with Montpellier second in Ligue 1 and Tours seventh in the division below.

They next face another Ligue 2 side, Chateauroux, for a place in the quarter-finals.

Monpellier suffered for extended periods at Tours, missing several opportunities and the predatory instincts of main striker Olivier Giroud, injured for the clash with his former side.

Both Marseille and Lyon were on Sunday given tough times by lower league opposition before booking their place in the last 16.

Marseille were taken to extra time by second division Le Havre at the Stade Velodrome.

Lyon booked their place in next round with a 2-0 win over Vendee Lucon.
