Denizli owes Persepolis fans a title

4 January 2012 14:37

New Persepolis coach Mustafa Denizli says he feels he owes the fans a title after failing in his stint at the Tehran club.

The 62-year-old Turk coached from 2006 to 2007 in a spell where he won over fans with his style of play, but failed to win silverware.

Denizli's return to the club comes at a time of desperation for Persepolis, who currently sit ninth in the Iran Pro League, 14 points behind leaders and Tehran rivals Esteghlal.

However, Denizli told the Tehran Times his goal is to change the club's fortunes and earn the title he feels he owes them.

"I could not win a trophy at the last time I was here but the fans still like me and it shows they are satisfied with the way we played," Denizli said.

"I feel I owe them a title and I am here to do that. However, we are ninth in the standings table and would rather finish the league as one of top teams to book a berth in the next year’s AFC Champions League. But we are going to win the championship in the next season."

"I've come to Persepolis to change the situation."
