International Friendlies wrap: Comfortable win for Japan

Japan defeated Iceland 3-1 in an international friendly on Friday, while there were also wins for Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.

A goal from Jubilo Iwata striker Ryoichi Maeda made it 1-0 to Japan inside the first two minutes of the match at Osaka's Nagai Stadium.

Nagoya Grampus midfielder Jungo Fujimoto doubled the lead with a goal eight minutes into the second half.

And Cologne centre-back Tomoaki Makino completed the scoring for the home side with 11 minutes remaining.

Esbjerg forward Arnor Smarason claimed a 90th-minute consolation goal from the penalty spot for Iceland.

In other friendlies on Friday, Singapore came from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Azerbaijan.

In a match played at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai, it was Azerbaijan who took the lead, with Rauf Aliyev on target in the 15th minute.

Mahir Shukurov made it 2-0 with a goal two minutes past the hour mark.

Shahril Ishak got one back for Singapore 10 minutes later, and Fahrudin Mustafic snatched a draw when he netted the equaliser in the 93rd minute.

In other matches, Thailand defeated Maldives 3-0, while the UAE saw off Palestine by the same score-line.
