Paraguay legend Jose Luis Chilavert has launched a verbal attack on Al Wasl boss Diego Maradona, stating he 'knows nothing' about football.
The 46-year-old's comments come in the wake of Maradona's criticism of Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, whom he described as a 'bad custodian'.
"For me, Valdes is the best in the world," Chilavert told COM Radio.
"When Barca need calm, he transmits that. He also has great capacity and handling."
Chilavert, who retired from football in 2004, went on to slam Maradona, insisting that the Al Wasl coach is not an example in the game.
"Maradona knows nothing about football. Footballers have to look after themselves and not get into drugs," Chilavert said.
"He has done a lot of damage to football. He has even spoken ill of Pope John Paul II, which is why he is exiled in the United Arab Emirates."
Barca forward Lionel Messi has earned comparisons with Maradona over the years, and Chilavert has no doubt that the three-time Ballon d'Or winner is the better player.
"Messi is the best, he is better than Maradona. At Messi's age, Maradona had not won not even one per cent of what Messi has won," he said.
