Lee brings smile to Adkins´ face

19 February 2012 09:42

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins was delighted with Tadanari Lee's contribution in their 4-0 thrashing of Derby in the Championship.

The Asian Cup hero, who was introduced to the game after the half-time, scored the last goal of the match - his first for the club - after 76 minutes with an 18-yard strike which was unstoppable for Derby's goalkeeper Frank Fielding.

"What a strike that was," Atkins told the club's website.

The former Scunthorpe United manager also revealed he is pleased to have such strong players in his roster and has big plans for the Japanese striker.

"I introduced Chung (Lee) into the game for that bit of energy he can add," Adkins said.

"I have high hopes for him and he's part of a strong bench which allows me to make some changes."

On Lee, Adkins added: "He has come in from a different continent and has settled so well."

"He has applied himself in the right manner, is a really nice person, works really hard and is a talented, talented player. I think there is a lot more to come from him."

Lee joined Southampton in January transfer window after playing eight years in Japan with FC Tokyo, Kashiwa Reysol and Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
