Maccabi Haifa climbed to sixth place in the Israeli Premier League on Monday with a 4-1 thumping of Maccabi Petah Tikva.
Haifa boss Elisha Levy was looking for a strong response from his side after they suffered a 1-0 defeat against leaders Ironi Kiryat Shmona in their last league game, and Yaniv Katan helped them make the ideal start when he scored after eight minutes.
They doubled their advantage midway through the first period when Mohammad Ghadir finished neatly after 26 minutes.
Any hopes of a Petah Tikva comeback were extinguished five minutes after the break, when Alon Turgeman sprinted through and added another for the hosts.
Turgeman doubled his tally for the match soon afterwards, volleying home just past the hour mark.
An own-goal from Jurica Buljat gave Petah Tikva a consolation 11 minutes from the end.
