Yuri Krasnozhan has resigned as Anzhi Makhachkala coach, intensifying speculation that Fabio Capello will be installed as his successor.

Yuri Krasnozhan has resigned as Anzhi Makhachkala coach, intensifying speculation that Fabio Capello will be installed as his successor.

Upon taking charge in December, Krasnozhan signed a five-year contract with the Russian outfit.

However, it was reported over the weekend that Anzhi have begun talks with Capello, who sensationally stepped down as England manager last week.

Krasnozhan has added to the intrigue by refusing to clearly explain why he has quit.

"There is only one thing I can say, the main reason for my decision is the divergence of basic principles of the staff's management," the 48-year-old said.

"I also ask the fans of Anzhi to understand this difficult decision."

The club claimed in the press release that Krasnozhan chose 'to terminate labour relations on his own free will' and that both 'parties came to an agreement not to disseminate the motives and reasons of the parting.'

Anzhi also announced that Wednesday's training session will be overseen by Andrey Gordeev, who will be assisted in his duties as interim coach by Roberto Carlos.

As well as Capello, Rafa Benitez and Guus Hiddink have been linked to the Anzhi job.
