Premier League preview: West Brom v Fulham

30 December 2012 13:07

West Bromwich Albion will look to bounce back from their loss to Manchester United when they play host to Fulham on Tuesday.

Steve Clarke's men are seventh on the English Premier League table, three points behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur, despite going down to leaders United 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

An own goal from Gareth McAuley put United in front before substitute Robin van Persie scored in the last minute of the match to condemn West Brom to their seventh defeat of the season.

But an 11th win of the campaign on New Year's Day could see Albion climb back into European contention.

"In football, it's difficult to look too far ahead, especially a club like us," Clarke said.

"We know what we're trying to be and how we're trying to build as a team. I think for us to look too far ahead and speculate would be wrong.

"All our thoughts are on the next game. We'll prepare another team and hopefully get another good result against Fulham."

Fulham enjoyed a stellar start to the season but have since slipped to 14th on the table following a 2-1 loss to Swansea City at home on Saturday.

The London club dominated possession and had twice as many shots as Swansea, who took the lead through Danny Graham and Jonathan de Guzman on either side of the interval.

"We played against a good team and that was probably their worst game of the season so it was very disappointing that we didn't get a result, at least a point," Fulham manager Martin Jol said after the match.

Fulham could welcome Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer back from injury at the Hawthorns, while West Brom will give Jonas Olsson (groin), Youssouf Mulumbu, Claudio Yacob, Goran Popov (all hamstring) and Steven Reid (shin) every chance to prove their fitness.
