18 December 2012 22:52

Kickers Offenbach sprung a surprise in the DFB Pokal on Tuesday, beating Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf 2-0.

Visitors Dusseldorf were unable to find a way past their hosts at the Sparda Bank Hessen Stadium, and goals in the last 14 minutes from Mathias Fetsch and Stefan Vogler saw the third-tier side advance to the quarter-finals.

They were joined in the last eight by Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, who eased past Augsburg 2-0 thanks to goals from Mario Gomez and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Bayern booked their place in the quarters will relative ease, despite losing Franck Ribery to a red card two minutes into the second half.

Elsewhere, Nicolas Muller scored with eight minutes to go as Mainz downed out-of-form Schalke 2-1 away from home.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar had levelled for the home side after Marco Caligiuri gave Mainz the lead, but there was to be no winning start for Jens Keller in what was the interim coach's first match in charge following the dismissal of Huub Stevens.

Finally, Jonathan Schmid's early goal proved enough for Freiburg to get past Karlsruhe 1-0 away from home.
