Tshosane to keep Botswana job

13 December 2012 15:47

Botswana coach Stanley Tshosane looks set to stay in his job despite months of speculation over his future.

It means he should be in charge when they take on neighbours South Africa in World Cup qualification next year.

Tshosane has dismissed reports of an imminent departure.

"I'm not worried about these unfounded rumours," he said.

The future of the veteran coach has been on the agenda since Botswana crashed out at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon earlier this year and then picked up just one point in their opening two World Cup qualifiers - a 1-1 home draw with Bafana Bafana in Gaborone in June.

The Zebras were also beaten home and away by Mali in the 2013 Nations Cup qualifiers.

"I find these reports amusing and entertaining because I wonder how such reports are manufactured," he said.

Tshosane said he and his Botswana FA employers have been discussing a path forward for the national team, not the terms of his departure as the local press have speculated.

Next year, Tshosane will attempt to revive Botswana's World Cup chances as they face Ethiopia in March and June and then play the Central African Republic and complete their Group A programme away in South Africa in September.
