Former Colombia goalkeeper Calero dies, 41

5 December 2012 01:15

Former Colombia goalkeeper Miguel Calero passed away on Tuesday in Mexico City, a day after being declared brain dead.

Calero had been hospitalised since November 26, due to thrombosis in his arm causing a blood clot to reach his brain, which forced the ex-player to be put onto life support.

Club Pachuca, the 41-year-old's former team who he won three titles with, released a statement to the press regarding Calero's death.

"Grupo Pachuca deeply regret reporting here that on the day December 4 2012, the biggest symbol of Tuzos, Miguel Angel Calero Rodriguez, has passed away," the statement read.

"Miguel Calero was a football player who left his mark on a great era in the history of Club Pachuca.

"We would like to thank everyone for showing love, support and solidarity towards him and his family."

Calero appeared 50 times for Colombia and was a member of their 1998 World Cup team.
