Brazil Serie A wrap: Sao Paulo cruise as Flamengo draw

31 August 2012 04:31

Luis Fabiano and Lucas Moura were on target as Sao Paulo defeated Botafogo 4-0 in Brazil's Serie A on Thursday, as Flamengo were held.

Former Sevilla stalwart Luis Fabiano opened the scoring for hosts Sao Paulo just six minutes into the match at Estadio Morumbi.

Osvaldo doubled the lead a minute before the hour mark, with Lucas Moura, who will join Paris Saint-Germain in January adding a third two minutes later.

Osvaldo turned provider as Cicero added gloss to the scoreline with a fourth goal on 89 minutes.

The comfortable victory takes Sao Paulo up to fourth place, 10 points behind league leaders Atletico Mineiro.

Botafogo are six points back from Sao Paulo in eighth.

Also on Thursday, Felipe Azevedo's goal for visitors Sport Recife cancelled out Ibson's stike for Flamengo in a 1-1 draw at Estadio General Sílvio Raulino de Oliveira.

Flamengo are 10th in the standings, while Sport Recife are 18th, just two points better off than last-placed Figueirense.
