Jantschke optimistic ahead of Kiev clash

Borussia Moenchengladbach midfielder Tony Jantschke is hopeful his side can overturn a 3-1 deficit away to Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday.

The German team trail the Ukrainian outfit heading into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League third-round qualifier but Jantschke believes Gladbach can turn it around in Kiev.

"Yes, we believe it. That's why we play football. Every match can be like the one we've just had, we know that," he said.

"And we know Kiev are very strong at home. Anyway, we will give everything we have and maybe it will work out."

The Bundesliga side are making their first foray into Europe's elite club competition since they reached the semi-finals in 1978 but found the going tough last Wednesday despite taking a 1-0 lead in Germany.

But Jantschke saw plenty of positive signs in the first leg and divulged the reason behind his belief.

"We saw in the first leg that if we can switch fast like we did in the first 20 to 25 minutes we played here, we can put Kiev under pressure," he said.

"They weren't expecting that, so I think this time they'll be prepared for us.

"We have to put everything into attack, and it is important that we don't get a counter goal in the beginning, so we need a controlled offence, but in reality we need to put all our eggs in one basket."
