Taylor unhappy with Atromitos crowd

25 August 2012 07:37

Ryan Taylor has slammed Atromitos supporters after being struck with a missile during Newcastle's 1-1 draw at the Greek club on Thursday.

Taylor was hit with a bolt thrown from the crowd as he lined up a set-piece but regained his composure to score for Newcastle and help to earn his side a draw in the Europa League qualifying tie.

"I think their fans let themselves down. I went over for a corner and I got hit on the back with a bolt," Taylor told Sky Sports.

"I didn't say anything, but it wasn't nice. There's no place in football for that. From that corner onwards, I think they had something against me."

Teenager Adam Campbell become the youngest player to feature for the Tyneside club in Europe following his appearance as a second-half substitute against Atromitos.

And the 17-year-old expressed his delight at playing, saying: "It was the proudest day of my life, definitely, by far.

"When we came and I knew we had 19 men for an 18-man squad, I thought I'd probably miss out. I was here just to enjoy the experience.

"I would have had I played or not, it wouldn't have made a difference. But to actually get in the squad and get on knowing I'd be the youngest player was amazing.

"Knowing that I have my own little record for the club I support - I can't put that into words. I can't describe what it means to me."

Next up for Newcastle is a match away to Chelsea on Saturday.
