Ligue 1 wrap: Valenciennes run hot
Valenciennes moved level with Lyon at the top of Ligue 1 after comfortably accounting for 10-man Ajaccio 3-0 on Saturday.
Daniel Sanchez's men were unbeaten against Troyes and Nice in their opening two fixtures and extended that run against Ajaccio courtesy of goals from Mamadou Samassa, Loris Nery and an own goal from David Oberhauser.
Samassa headed home a Gael Danic cross to give Valenciennes a 16th minute lead before their task was made slightly easier when Ajaccio midfielder Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi received his marching orders on 37 minutes.
The hosts extended their lead 11 minutes into the second half through Nery and wrapped up the match with an own goal nine minutes from time.
Valenciennes are on seven points alongside Lyon and are joined by Toulouse, who edged hosts Nancy 1-0.
Moussa Sissoko's 11th minute strike was enough to secure all three points for the visitors against a Nancy side that ended the match with 10-men following the dismissal of defender Andre Luiz four minutes into the second half.
Meanwhile, Lille were held to a 2-2 draw away to Nice at the Stade du Ray.
Rudi Garcia decided to rest a number of key players ahead of the second-leg Champions League playoff tie against Copenhagen but it mattered little in the first half as Dimitri Payet hit a 36th minute opener for the visitors.
However, Nemanja Pejcinovic restored parity for Nice on the stroke of half-time before Eric Bautheac put the hosts in front 10 minutes after the break.
Nice's lead lasted only four minutes as Djibril Sidibe equalised for the Champions League hopefuls and the score would remain the same at the conclusion of 90 minutes.
In other results on Saturday, Bastia's unbeaten start to the season ended with a 3-2 loss at Rennes, Reims carved out a narrow 1-0 victory over Sochaux and Lorient came-from-behind twice to claim a share of the spoils at Troyes.
