Matuidi sees solutions for Ibrahimovic void

23 August 2012 17:20

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi believes PSG can manage without star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic against Bordeaux.

Ibrahimovic scored twice in PSG's opening game of the Ligue 1 season but missed the capital club's goalless draw at Ajaccio last week after picking up an ankle injury.

The Swedish striker, who was bought from Milan for 23 million euros prior to the season, has not yet resumed full training.

While Matuidi agrees Ibrahimovic is a top player, the French midfielder says PSG have enough quality to cover the void.

"We have enough players to compensate for the injury of one player," Matuidi said.

"We know that he is very important.

"We know who he is, but we have many players in the squad - strikers, midfielders, defenders.

"There are many players available to make up for an injury or two."

Flush with cash from their Qatari owners, PSG have assembled an expensive squad but have only managed a pair of draws from their opening two league games.

Matuidi has reminded his team-mates that their skill alone will not be enough if they are to win PSG's first Ligue 1 title since 1994.

"It's only a question of mentality," Matuidi said.

"We cannot rely solely on our technical qualities because the other teams are hungry.

"When they play against Paris, they try to transcend themselves.

"We need to be strong especially mentally.

"Every player has talent, but in football, it's not enough by itself, particularly in Ligue 1."

PSG host Bordeaux on Sunday with the visitors heading to Paris after two straight wins.

"They are a good team that have always played well at the Parc des Princes," Matuidi said.

"We have been warned, but we don't need to focus on the other team, but only on ourselves.

"We need to say to ourselves that we need to play at our maximum level.

"If we do that, there is no reason that we won't get a good result."
