Ki keen for Swansea spell

23 August 2012 17:20

Swansea City bound midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng says it will be an honour to play in the 'world-class' Premier League.

The South Korea international is set to join the Welsh club from Celtic ahead of their match against West Ham on Saturday.

Ki expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing in the English top flight but acknowledged expectations would be high back in his homeland.

"It's an honour to play in such a world class league that I've only watched on television," Ki told reporters.

"The key is to make adjustments to my new environment as quickly as I can. If I can just play my game, I think I will have a good career there.

"If I develop into a better player in Premier League, then I think it will also help Korean football. I know expectations will be high. I will just go out there and try to do my best."

The 23-year-old said Swansea's distinct football philosophy had attracted him to the Liberty Stadium ahead of several other clubs following his impressive form for Celtic.

"Swansea City is a very cohesive team that relies on passes, and you don't see that often in England," he said. "That's what makes the team so attractive, and I would be able to play the kind of football I want to play."

Ki is also looking forward to learning from Swansea manager Michael Laudrup, who was a seven-time league champion with Ajax, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus in his playing days.

"I would expect to learn a lot from him, since he was such an internationally renowned player," Ki said. "It will be a great experience playing for Swansea City."
