Ligue 1 wrap: PSG stumble, Marseille fire

20 August 2012 00:05

Paris Saint-Germain endured another frustrating outing in a goalless draw with AC Ajaccio while Marseille moved into Ligue 1's top two with a win.

After two games, raging favourites PSG are still looking for a win with big-money signing Ezequiel Lavezzi sent off on Sunday, as well as manager Carlo Ancelotti for kicking a water bottle onto the pitch at the Stade Francois-Coty.

PSG, who were without star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to a foot injury, started with the same back four that were roundly criticised in last week's 2-2 draw with Lorient.

French international Jeremy Menez had PSG's best chance of the game but fired his shot straight at the keeper after a delightful curling through ball from Javier Pastore.

The capital club's night turned further sour when Lavezzi saw red for a two-footed lunge on Benjamin Andre and are now ninth with two points from two games.

Elsewhere, Marseille were too good for Sochaux in a 2-0 win, with Andre-Pierre Gignac and Rod Fanni on target.

Marseille had to wait until the 54th minute despite dominating the first half, but went ahead through Gignac, who netted the first with a powerful header over Sochaux defender Mathieu Peybernes.

Gignac should have made it two moments later before inexplicably missing from close range with the goal gaping.

Fanni poked home from close range in the 90th minute to ensure Marseille were not made to pay for a succession of missed chances in the opening half hour.

Bordeaux stayed in the top four after a 1-0 win over Stade Rennes, courtesy of Ludovic Obraniak's 75th-minute winner.

Earlier, Henri Saivet missed a penalty for the home side after Rennes' defender John Boye was harshly adjudged to have fouled Yoan Gouffran in the box.

In a tense second half, chaotic scenes saw Kana-Biyik block a shot before Obraniak followed up to smash home the goal for Bordeaux.
