Reus ready for Messi mastery

15 August 2012 00:18

Germany coach Joachim Loew is set to field a young side ahead of their friendly with Argentina in Frankfurt on Wednesday.

A large amount of the pre-match talk surrounds Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, however, who has been named in the final three for UEFA's player of the year award.

German striker Marco Reus said Germany will have to stop Messi to get a result.

"Obviously a new season has now started. Our first game is against Argentina and we are all pleased to play against them. As Sami (Khedira) said before they have several outstanding players in their squad," Reus said.

"To compete with them is nice, and personally it is my chance to try and convince the national coach, as he decides who is going to play. But I am not the only young player trying to reach the first eleven.

"It will be the first time that I am on the same pitch as Messi. No doubt he is a world class player. He is so light footed and everything seems to be so easy for him, but I think he has worked a lot.

"He is an outstanding player and it's enjoyable to see him on the pitch. But we have seen how we could stop him and we will be well prepared to get a result."
